Questions

FAQThe brand, the vessels, the presale

Plain answers. Where something is not yet decided, we say so rather than invent it.

What is Long Origin?

Long Origin is a ceramics house. We carry the Hongshan culture — the 5,500-year-old society where the Chinese loong (dragon) first took codified form — into vessels for water and wine.

Our first collection is in development, and a presale will reach the waitlist first.

What was the Hongshan culture?

A Neolithic culture of China's West Liao River valley, spanning roughly 6,500 to 5,000 years before present — more than 200,000 square kilometres at its reach (Xinhua). At Niuheliang it raised an altar, a temple and stone tombs; its highest tombs held jade, and jade only.

Its C-shaped jade dragon is known as China's First Dragon and is held by the National Museum of China. In 2023, China's national origins project named Niuheliang the representative site of the first phase of the ancient kingdom era (NCHA).

What is the first collection?

The first collection is a small line of vessels for water and wine. The core piece is The Five-Loong Reverse-Flow Ewer: a celadon reverse-flow ewer carrying five loongs — its body formed from the Hongshan pig-dragon, with no opening on top. Filled from beneath through a hidden channel in its base — a communicating-vessels mechanism first mastered by the Song–Liao kilns a thousand years ago — it does not spill.

It is presented with its companion, the Tidal Loong Cup: a siphon cup whose standing loong rises above the wine at seven-tenths — and drains the bowl if you pour past the line — the historic fairness cup of the imperial table. Whether ewer and cup ship as one set or two pieces is still being decided. Two further concepts, the Yunxiu Slanted Vessel and the Spiral Pourer, follow in the same breath.

When can I buy, and how?

The first vessel exists as physical pieces — the photographs on this site are of the actual ewer and cup. No price or date is published yet — we will not invent one. When the presale opens, launch pricing reaches the waitlist first, by email.

Purchases in the presale will run through a Shopify Buy Button embedded on this site; this site itself handles no cart and no payment.

What will the pieces be made of?

The first vessel is celadon-glazed carved ceramic — a pale green glaze over relief-carved loongs and clouds, made as a Chifeng intangible-cultural-heritage craft.

Exact clay body, dimensions, capacity and firing method are being confirmed, and will be published with each piece before the presale. Later pieces will range across glaze directions drawn from Hongshan jades: jade-green, wok-black, matte black and bone-white.

Are the artifact images on this site your products?

Every image is labelled for what it is. Photographs of the first ewer and cup are actual product sample photos, studio-finished — final production may vary. Artifact photographs are museum reference images from public sources, used for narrative reference only.

The historic Yaozhou reverse-flow ewer photo is a form-lineage reference, and coming-next pieces are shown as concept visualizations.

Where do you ship?

Our first market is the United States, and shipping logistics are being planned around it. Carriers, rates and insurance terms will be confirmed to waitlist members by email before the presale opens.

Ceramics travel carefully; we would rather confirm the plan than promise one.

Why "Loong" and not "Dragon"?

Because they are not the same animal. The Western dragon hoards and burns; the loong of the Liao River valley was prayed to for rain, carved in jade, and buried with the honoured dead.

Keeping the two apart is part of the story we tell — and part of the reason our name is a finding, not a translation.

Are your pieces artifacts or antiques?

No. Our pieces are contemporary works of ceramic art. They are not archaeological artifacts, antiques, or reproductions of excavated objects.

What we offer is the culture reimagined — 5,500 years of inspiration, made by hand today.

How can I contact the studio?

By email, always: xinye.studio@outlook.com.

Or leave your address on the waitlist — launch news reaches it first, and you may simply reply to that email.
